Taiwan: Cijin 旗津區

Cijin District (旗津區) is a district of Kaohsiung City in southern Taiwan, covering the entire Cijin Island. Most of its residents are employed by the shipping industry. There is a park on the north western shore. The "Cross Harbor Tunnel" (過港隧道) connects the Cijin Island at the southern tip to the rest of Kaohsiung on the mainland Taiwan. Cijin District is also accessible by two ferries at northern top and middle of the island. Cijin Island was once connected to the mainland at the southern tip, but in 1975, this link was severed to create a second entry point to the Port of Kaohsiung.

We took the Cijin Island Ferry that connects the Cijin and Gushan Districts of Kaohsiung.

In old Kaohsiung , Cijin Island was called the “Chihou peninsula.” It was the first Chinese settlement in the Kaohsiung area and remains an important location to all the city's residents. On the western side of the city, it is essentially a long, thin sandbar measuring eleven kilometers in length, and only two hundred meters wide. After links to the main city were opened up, including a tunnel that runs under the harbor to the island and an excellent ferry service, Cijin took off as a popular destination for city residents looking for a little beachside relaxation close at hand.

Cijin is the place if you're looking for great scenery and an ocean breeze. This tiny island is full of activities from swimming to walking, eating some of the freshest seafood in the city and even taking a ride on a three-wheeled passenger bicycle. The weather that day was just perfect, everything from the market, restaurants or the beach is walking distance.

This here is actually just a post with directions and only one part of the board says "message board" but it obviously ran out of room so the entire post became a "message board." So I decided to sign my name but I found it kinda funny that visitors come prepare with white out markers.
